To meet the demand for both extended operating range and extended battery life, the “V” series SM transmitters offer selectable output power (See specific model data sheets for details). A third selection at 50 mW is provided for some theatrical applications where the system design specifies lower transmitter power.
The input section features the unique servo bias input circuitry with a standard TA5M type jack for use with electret lavaliere mics, dynamic mics, or line level signals. A DSP-controlled analog audio limiter is employed before the A-D converter. The limiter has a range of more than 30 dB for excellent overload protection and a dual release envelope that makes the limiter acoustically transparent while maintaining low distortion. The limiter recovers quickly from brief transients, with no audible side effects, and also recovers slowly from sustained high levels to keep audio distortion low while preserving short term dynamics.

*Digital Hybrid Wireless™ is a revolutionary new design that combines 24-bit digital audio with an analog FM radio link to provide outstanding audio quality and the extended operating range of the best analog wireless systems. The design overcomes channel noise in a dramatically new way, digitally encoding the audio bitstream in the transmitter and decoding it in the receiver, yet sending the encoded information via an analog FM wireless link. This proprietary DSP algorithm eliminates a compandor circuit and its artifacts, and preserves the RF spectral footprint of analog FM designs to simplify multi-channel coordination with exisiting analog wireless systems.

This version is identical to v1.7 except that the bootloader improvements from versions 2.6 and 2.7 have been incorporated. No user apparent changes have been made since v1.7, and the bootloader improvements can only be realized with a Microchip device programmer. (A LectroLink update replaces everything but the bootloader.)
The primary reason to apply this update (effective via the Microchip device programmer only) is that a unit running older v1.x firmware erroneously powers up in the UPDATE mode.

SPECIAL UPGRADE WARNING: Normally version 1.6 would not be needed as an update or upgrade, since no new features have been added, nor bugs fixed, which are apparent to the user. Furthermore, this version should be applied with great care, consulting the release notes, if applied at all. Some of the new factory features permit selective disabling of compatibility modes and power output levels. If these enable/disable flags are not set carefully, an upgraded unit may no longer offer all of the compatibility modes and power output levels previously available.

This version has no customer perceptible changes since version 2.6. Version 2.7 fixes a problem with the bootloader which prevented the LectroLink adapter from accomplishing certain firmware updates (notably the upgrade from v2.3 forward). Since only the bootloader was changed, the only reason to upgrade from v2.6 to v2.7 is to make it safer to use LectroLink to take further updates in the future.
