Replacement Instructions For UCR211, UCR411, UCR411a & UCR511

These instructions describe the steps necessary to change the LCD module (PN 48353) without damaging the receiver’s internal components. The LCD module is mounted on a display board which is attached to the front panel and the RF board. The RF board (PN 17308) has the two right angle BNC connectors attached to the front end. The Audio board (PN 17309 in the UCR211 and 17323 in the UCR411/UCR511) is opposite of and attaches to the RF board.

Procedure:

1. Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries. Lift and open the bottom battery door cover with your thumb, rotate the door until it is perpendicular with the case and allow the batteries to fall out of the compartment into your hand.

2. Remove and set aside the four Phillips head screws attaching the front bezel to the receiver and remove the bezel.

3. Remove and set aside the three Phillips Head screws from the top, side and bottom of the housing near the rear of the unit.

4. Hold the housing in one hand and push against the front panel to carefully slide the unit to the rear out of the housing. Do not push on the display window.

5. Locate the side with RF board (PN 17308) and remove two Phillips Head screws holding the RF board to the Rear Mounting Plate and the two Phillips Head screws mounting the RF board to the Battery Block.

6. Flip the assembly so the Audio board is available and remove two “HEX” head screws securing the PC board to the front panel using 1.3mm or .050” HEX driver or Allen wrench.

Note: Some units may have Phillips head screws here.

Warning DO NOT remove the three PH screws securing the Audio board to the rear panel or the battery block.

7. Observe the Power Switch on the front panel and the connectors between the Audio and RF boards. Carefully separate the Audio and RF boards by pulling them apart at the rear of the unit to allow the power switch to “unhook” from the front panel slot without being damaged and the connectors to separate without bending.

8. Use a Spanner Socket to remove the Spanner Nuts holding the BNC connectors to the front panel.

9. Remove the two Phillips Head screws holding the display board to the rear of the front panel. Carefully slide the front panel forward and off the BNC connectors.

UCR Series LCD display module: remove Phillips head screws and front panel.

10. Pull upward on the display board assembly to unplug the 4-pin connector. Be careful not to damage or strain the FFC (Flat Flex Cable). Unlock the FFC connector by evenly lifting both ends of the top lock lid about 2 mm until the lock feels loose. Pull the FFC cable end out of the FFC connector.

CAUTION: Pulling up with excessive force will rip the connector housing from the pins.

11. Note the orientation of the Display Module with respect to the Display Board. Carefully bend the four metal tabs straight up and pull the Display Module from the Display Board and set it aside.

12. Line up the tabs of the new Display Module with the holes on the Display Board and press the Display Module against the Display Board. Bend the four tabs inward approximately 45 degrees to secure the module.

Note; Some units may have fishpaper spacers on the tabs, transfer these to the new Display Module before installing it onto the Display Board.

13. Carefully insert the FFC cable end fully into the FFC connector taking care to line up the cable square with the connector. Hold the cable in place and press down evenly on both ends of the FFC connector lock. Then plug the Display Assembly four pin connector to the mating connector on the RF board and carefully bend and dress the FFC cable down to clear the audio board.

14. Slide the Front Panel back over the BNC connectors and reinstall the two spanner nuts. Then reinstall the two Phillips Head screws to secure the Display Board to the rear of the Front Panel.

15. Mate the RF board to the Audio board by first inserting the Power Switch into the Front Panel slot. Line up the Audio boards 12-pin and 8-pin connectors with the mating RF board sockets then seat the RF board into place.
