The Digital Hybrid Wireless® product line has been the mainstay of the Lectrosonics wireless microphone product series since its introduction in 2002. The transmission technology is a revolutionary design that combines digital audio with an analog FM radio link to provide outstanding audio quality and the exemplary RF performance of the finest analog wireless systems with the low noise and low audio distortion of digital wireless.
The design overcomes radio channel noise by digitally encoding the audio in the transmitter and decoding it in the receiver, yet still sending the encoded information via an analog FM wireless link. This proprietary algorithm is not a digital implementation of an analog compandor. Instead, it is a technique which can be accomplished only in the digital domain. The process eliminates a compandor and its artifacts from the audio chain, expanding the applications to include test and measurement of acoustic spaces and musical instruments.
Digital Hybrid Wireless received US Patent 7,225,135 in 2007. And, in 2017, Lectrosonics received an Academy Award for Technical Achievement, since the majority of Hollywood feature films from 2005 have been made with Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid Wireless microphone systems.
